Director Legal Services/Chief Privacy Officer

As the Director Legal Services/Chief Privacy Officer you will handle and manage a variety of litigation and pre-litigation matters, overseeing the company’s privacy program, offering counsel on a broad range of legal issues, risks and liabilities and assisting with special projects.  If you would like to be on a team of Great People delivering great service, we may have just the opportunity for you!


The job involves:


  • Advising and guiding Human Resources and management across all operational departments on employment, human rights, privacy, contract, labour relations and union issues
  • Taking ownership and custody of litigation matters and attend court, as necessary
  • Consulting and advising operations management on privacy and privacy-related matters, including data governance, anti-spam and cyber security issues
  • Advising on legal risks associated with marketing material, internal and external communications and the various legal components of retail operations and entertainment contracts
  • Reviewing contracts, drafting contract amendments, waivers and other documentation to mitigate organizational risk
  • Supporting and providing on-going guidance to key committees including the: Trespass Committee, Information Security Committee, Anti-Money Laundering Committee, Responsible Gaming Committee, Collective Bargaining Committee and Policy Committee
  • Reviewing policies to ensure compliance with applicable legal requirements, mitigating reputational risk and reduce exposure to legal liability
  • Corresponding and negotiating with external parties and stakeholders, including Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG)
  • Monitoring current and evolving statutes, regulations, industry developments and case law to identify legal issues of critical importance to the company
  • Directing and overseeing the Insurance & Legal Specialist and provide guidance to all risk mitigation initiatives


The ideal candidate has:


  • Law degree from a recognized university and be a member in good standing of the Law Society of Ontario
  • A minimum of 8 years of experience gained in private practice and/or in-house with a reputable employer
  • Proven capabilities in managing litigation matters,  excellent negotiating skills in legal and commercial matters
  • Demonstrated competence in privacy law, experience with employment and labour relations
  • Experience in a heavily regulated industry with gaming or hospitality knowledge
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and presentation skills
  • High degree of professional ethics and integrity
  • Sound judgement and the ability to objectively analyze situations and information
  • Ability to focus on results and work independently and manage tasks with little supervision
  • Excellent conflict resolution and negotiation skills
  • Positive attitude and willingness to take-on challenges and new tasks
